Earlier this year I discovered the magic of homemade felt ornaments, and I instantly knew I needed to make several from my favorite Pretty Guardian series to display on my tree this season! This Sailor Moon Crystal Compact ornament is fairly easy to make for any beginner crafters out there. Kids could even make one with the help of an adult!
This is a great craft for anyone looking to use up leftover felt scraps, and the best part, it’s NO SEW! I am by no means an avid sewer, so this easy craft was my JAM!
A sailor moon crystal star is all the magic your Christmas tree needs this holiday season! And, they even make darling wall hangings, too! Grab your girls and let’s get crafty!
Supply List For Sailor Moon DIY:
Though this Sailor Moon craft takes just a bit of time to make, the supplies cost virtually nothing(this cost me less than 10$!). The perfect inexpensive gift idea for a gamer girl, anime/ manga lover, or serious Sailor Moon fanatic!
How To Make This Homemade Felt Ornament:
Get ready to power up with this lovely craft idea inspired by the beloved character from Naoko Takeuchi. It’s the best gift idea for any anime lover!
First, download and print the free printable ornament template sheets.
Not required – but if you have the ability to print on cardstock, do it! It’ll be a bit easier to work with when it comes to the tracing portion of this project.
Follow the instructions on the printable template, print and cut out each piece from each printable page.
Trace each shape onto the corresponding different colors of felt using a pencil.
Cut out your felt shapes and set them aside.
Start assembling your DIY ornament by first layering the large pink circle onto the largest yellow circle. Line them up centered, as shown. Secure with hot glue.
Line the yellow star shape on the center of the pink felt circle you just created. Secure carefully with glue (glue the points of the star down first, and fill in any loose areas as needed with hot glue).
Then, glue the two remaining largest yellow circles together with the smaller circle centered on top. Take the next largest remaining yellow circle and attach the remaining pink circle center on top with a bead of glue. You should have just created two pieces like shown in the photo above.
Now, take these two pieces and glue the smaller one with the pink circle onto the top of the two larger yellow circles, this time lining it up towards the top so the large yellow felt pieces appear as an upside down crescent moon, like shown.
Glue this finished piece center in the middle of the star.
Take the remaining small separately colored felt pieces(R,G,B,O/Y) and glue each one carefully to a slightly larger yellow felt circle. You’ve created the jewels!
*For this step, I opted to use orange for one of my jewels, but yellow felt will work fine!
Glue the jewels to your crystal star as shown above.
Now, all that’s left to do is to add a pretty ribbon to your Sailor Moon Ornament!
Loop your ribbon on the back of your ornament and secure with hot glue. Ta-da!
Now you have a one of a kind Sailor Moon Crystal Star Compact that’s ready to transform any Moonies tree into a magical, girl-power festive wonder!
