Homemade Animal Cookie Ornaments

diy animal cookie decorations made from wood

Remember the pretty frosted animal cookies you’d beg your mom for at the grocery store? I loved eating way too many of those delicious animal cookies! In fact, as an adult, I’ve even caved and eaten almost an entire bag on my own. I remember wanting them not only because they tasted so yummy—crunchy yet soft—but also because of their pretty rainbow sprinkles and fun hot pink and white colors!

While strolling through my local Dollar Tree store, I spotted a pack of laser-cut animal shapes that were absolutely perfect for this fun DIY craft. With just a little paint and glue, you can create these adorable handcrafted ornaments too! I’ll link a couple of options to get your own perfect circus animal shapes in the Supply List below. Let’s get into it!

Everything you need to make this easy craft is in the list below! Don’t sweat it if you can’t find the same cutouts—they might only be available at Dollar Tree seasonally. You can grab the SVG file at the link below. It wouldn’t be much harder to trace the shapes onto thin wood and cut them out with an X-Acto knife, or even simpler, print them onto cardstock and decorate!

Start off by drilling small holes into the top of each animal cut out. I used a small piece of sandpaper to smooth out the drilled area.
