Design your very own strong and powerful fire demon – just like the one from the movie Howl’s Moving Castle! This NO sew Calcifer plushie is a Ghibli fan’s favorite thing.

Studio Ghibli movies are totally my comfy place… Howl’s Moving Castle is one of my favorite movies to put on while crafting away in my own world. Bring out your inner kid again with this super easy project even kids could make. This felt plushie is pretty cheap, can be quickly collected at your local craft store and makes the best squishy gift for a friend or family member!
Make this easy no sew felt plushie using just scissors and a glue gun! For extra long squishes, consider sewing the felt pieces together instead using a simple stitch pattern. Or, turn it into a cute tote for cosplay cons! It’d match perfectly with a DIY Howl or Sophie cosplay.

How To Make Calcifer Plush:

To start making your own DIY plushie project, cut out the fire demon himself!

Use the outline to trace onto a sheet of orange felt. Cut it out twice so that you’ll have a front and back for your plushie.

Next – cut out the inner flame portion and trace onto a yellow sheet of felt. Cut this out after tracing.

You should have two orange pieces and one yellow.

Cut out the eyes and the mouth from the template. Use the eyes to trace and cut out of a sheet of white felt. Then, trace the mouth onto red felt and cut this out.

For this next part, cut the bottom tongue portion of the template out and trace onto an orange felt square.

For the final cutting step – trim two small black eyeballs from a small amount of black felt.
Pro tip: Trim two squares about the same size and round them into circles using your scissors.

Stack each layer of felt onto each other as you see in the picture. Make sure your pieces are placed where you want them to be on the finished plushie.
Glue down each felt piece, starting with the smallest pieces first(dots of eyes). When gluing the front of your plushie to the back, glue only around the outermost inner edge of the plushie – leave room to stuff your plushie.

Leaving the bottom free of glue, stuff your plushie full of polyfil, cotton, or leftover felt scraps.

Give Calcifer a good squish to really behold his glory!

Such a cute little fire demon! Sophie would be so proud! 🔥😀
